Earlier referred to as American Trans Air, ATA Airlines is an American airline. It is a low cost carrier offering scheduled services besides charter airlines services. The airline is based at Indianapolis, Indiana. The focus of the airline was on offering cost effective airline fares to its passengers offering substantial savings.
ATA Airlines flights operate through two major hubs, Indianapolis International Airport and Chicago Midway International Airport that closed down 2005 and 2008 respectively. The focus cities of the airlines are Honolulu International Airport, Chicago Midway International Airport and Oakland International Airport. ATA Airlines flights operate between Aruba, Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, San Juan, Nassau, Cancun, Ixtapa, Puerto Vallarta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Hilo, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Indianapolis, Kahulai, Las Vegas, Lihue, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Newark, New York City, Orlando, Oakland, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Tampa and many other destinations. The airlines used to cater some of these destinations before it applied for bankruptcy and some after the services resumed again. The airlines applied for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on April 2, 2008. Later it announced ceasing all operations on April 3, 2008.

ATA Airlines Baggage Policy
ATA Airlines allows all passengers to carry one piece of carry-on baggage under baggage allowance policy during their travel with this airline. The weight of this luggage should not be more than 22 lbs. The weight limit for carry-on luggage is 22 lbs and the dimensions must not exceed 45 inches (L+W+H). No more than 88 lbs weight is allowed for first class and two items of checked baggage are allowed. Similarly, for business class passengers, 66 lbs weight is allowed and 44 lbs for economy class. 62 inches is the overall size limitation for checked baggage.
