JetStar Asia is a subsidiary of Jetstar Airways, which itself is a wholly owned low-cost subsidiary of Australia’s flagship carrier Qantas Airways. A privately owned company based in Singapore, Qantas Airways hold 49 percent stake in JetStar Asia. A Singapore based company Westbrook Investments holds the majority 51 percent stake in the airline. JetStar Asia started its operations with the launch of its flights to Hong Kong from Singapore on 13th December 2004. JetStar Asia joined hands with another Singapore-based carrier Valuair and announced merger on 24th July 2005. The two airlines are now operating under JetStar Asia brand and are presently among the leading low-cost air travel provider in Southeast Asia. JetStar Asia currently serves 25 destinations spanning 13 countries across Asia. Some of the important destinations include Haikou, Shantou, Guilin, Perth, Surabaya, Medan, Jakarta, Bali, Yangon, Osaka, Taipei, Manila, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Phuket and Bangkok.
