Yemen Airways, now popularly called Yemenia, is the flagship carrier of Yemen. The airline is headquartered in the Yemeni capital city of Sana'a. The airline was founded by the King of Yemen during the second half of 1940s. It was earlier known as Yemen Arab Airlines after the airline entered into partnership with United Arab Airlines in 1967. The airline continued to fly under this name until 1972 till the cooperation between the two carriers lasted. Yemen Airways was however nationalized in July 1972. Saudi Arabia in the year 1977 invested in the airline and purchased a 49 percent stake. The present name Yemenia under which the airline is operating was however adopted on 1st July 1978. Yemenia is conducting flight services to many domestic and international destinations from its primary hub at Sana’a International Airports. The international destinations being served include those in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.  Yemenia owns a fleet of 10 aircrafts comprising of three Airbus A310-300, two Airbus A320-200, two Airbus A330-200 and, three Bombardier Dash 8-100. The airline has also placed orders for 10 Airbus A350-800, which are expected to be deployed into operations during the first quarter of 2015.
