With the people making air travel increasingly and carrying along
with them their smartphones, tablets and laptops, the trend of providing
Wi-Fi on the ground and in-the-air is growing. And, people are also
taking advantage of this frequently.
Many international airlines are competing with each other to stay ahead
in the race and keep their customers happy and connected even at 40,000
feet above in the air. A recent study has indicated about the growing
trend and revealed the in-flight Wi-Fi offering and the costs by some
international airlines.
Air Canada is charging $5 for a one-hour pass to access their electronic
devices through Wi-Fi. For those who want to browse internet for 24
hours will be required to pay $14. The in-flight Wi-Fi service will be
available on select flights operating within North America.
American Airlines is offering Wi-Fi services on domestic flights and
charging $14 for internet access for a period of 24 hours. The airline
is however charging $19 on international routes for the entire duration
of the flight.
Those traveling on British Airways can gain Wi-Fi access by paying
$12.53 for one hour. However, for browsing internet during flight the
airline will be charging $23.49 for a period of 24 hours. This service
is being currently offered only on one flight operating on direct route
between London City and New York JFK.
Emirates Airline has varied options for internet access. The airline is
charging $2.75 for 5MB and $10 for 30MB for Wi-Fi access on mobile
devices. However, for Wi-Fi access on tablets and laptops the airline
charges $7.50 for 15MB and $20 for 100MB respectively. The service is
available on select Boeing 777 aircrafts and all Airbus A380 aircrafts.
Qatar Airways provides in-flight Wi-Fi services on all its Boeing 787
aircrafts. The prices however vary according to the usage and duration.
The airline is offering the service on select Airbus A319, A320 and A321
aircrafts.
