Aer Lingus 2011 operational results announced

Ireland’s flag carrier Aer Lingus recently announced its operational results for the year 2011, and expressed satisfaction over the outcome.

The airline said in a statement that Aer Lingus flights performed well and delivered better-than-expected results in the present difficult market conditions. According to the airline, though its profits went down slightly in 2011, but considering the external pressures it was facing this was indeed a positive result.

The airline said that it earned a profit of $64.90 million on revenues of $1.69 billion, down 6.4 percent as compared to 2010 figure of $69.39 million. However, the total pretax profit for 2011 was $111.55 million, up 210.4 percent as compared to $35.95 million in 2010. According to the airline, its operating costs were better than expected.

Christoph Mueller, Chief Executive of Aer Lingus, said that the 2011 operating result was lower than that of 2010, it was however praiseworthy and significantly ahead than what airline was expecting at the start of 2011.
