Aer Lingus may switch operations to Belfast City from Belfast International Airport

Leading Irish carrier Aer Lingus recently indicated that it is mulling switching its operations from Belfast International Airport to George Best Belfast City Airport.

In future, Aer Lingus flights might begin operating out of Belfast City airport instead of Belfast International Airport as the airline is currently into talks with the Belfast City airport authorities.

Media reports quoted Aer Lingus spokesman as saying that the airline is presently holding confidential negotiations with the authorities of both the airports, which is yet to be completed.

BMI Baby has stopped operating out of Belfast City airport, prompting the authorities to bring in more carriers to begin operations from here.

Currently, Aer Lingus is operating flights to London Heathrow, in addition to seven other European cities. The airline is, however, planning to expand its routes from Belfast City airport to regional airports within the UK.

The airline wants to make up for the routes lost due to stopping of flights by BMI Baby and is also aiming at posing stiff challenge to Flybe.
