Aer Lingus passenger traffic for Feb 2014 falls 1.2 percent

Aer Lingus, the popular European airline announced that its passenger traffic for the month of February has fallen 1.2 percent as compared to the figures for the same period last year. This airline operates flights to over 75 destinations worldwide including the United States.

It however, confirmed that the passenger traffic on its long haul routes has increased 7 percent to 46, 000 on a year-on-year basis. For the same period last year, the number stood at 43,000. The airline suffered a setback due to the fall in the passenger traffic on its short haul flights. As per the reports, the figures dipped 3.8 percent to 512,000. The overall passenger traffic for the month that fell 1.2 percent stood at 640,000.

The airline also witnessed a minor drop in its plan load factor. The load factor tumbled 1.3 percent on its short haul sectors to be at 68.7 percent. It also fell 0.3 percent on its long haul routes to be at 64.7 percent. Ironically, it toughest competitor witnessed a rise in the passenger traffic at the rate of 7 or 300,000 to 4.5 million passengers overall.

The national flagship carrier of Ireland was established in the year 1936 and has since been offering low-cost flights to travelers to destinations across the globe. It operates out of its hub in Dublin Airport in Swords, Dublin, Ireland. Its fleet comprises 47 planes from Airbus family. Some of its overseas destinations include Baltimore, Chicago, Washington D.C, and New York City.
