Aeromexico second quarter net income down 73.8 percent

Mexico’s national flag carrier Aeromexico recently announced its operational results for the second quarter of 2012. The airline was downcast at the outcome as Aeromexico flights failed to put up a strong showing.

The airline in a statement said that the sale of Aeromexico flights tickets was weak. The airline stated that its Q2 2012 net income was $11.8 million, down 73.8 percent, from $44.50 million profit, as compared to the same period in 2011.

The airline, however, revealed that it was able to reach the second-best quarter in its history even though there was a 14 percent increase in fuel prices and a 15.5 percent y-o-y exchange rate depreciation.

Aeromexico said that Latin America’s regional strength is also to be credited for the results. According to the airline, there was a 7 percent growth in international Aeromexico flights tickets bookings, whereas there was only 1 percent growth in domestic air tickets bookings.
 
The airline also said it added two new domestic routes from Mexico City. These domestic routes include Manzanillo and Chetumal. Apart from this, the airline also added two new Latin American regional routes to its flight network. These routes include Mexico City-San Salvador and Bogota-Cancun.
