Air Canada announces September result, traffic up 1.9 percent

Air Canada has announced its operational results for the month of September this year. The airline’s load factor was somewhat down, while its traffic for the month increased by 1.9 percent. According to the results, Air Canada’s load factor for September 2013 was 83.2 percent as compared to 84.9 percent in September last year. The airline’s load factor for the third quarter was 86.2 percent as compared to a record load factor of 86.3 percent for the same duration in 2012.

Regarding its passenger traffic, Air Canada airlines said that its traffic for September this year increased to 1.9 percent on a system-wide capacity increase of 3.9 percent. The airline reported traffic results on a system-wide basis, including Air Canada rouge, which started its operations on July 1, 2013, and regional carriers from which Air Canada buys its capacity.

Calin Rovinescu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Canada, said that the traffic results for the month of September is laudable, which is led by strong gains of almost six percent in the Pacific market. He said that the airline’s load factor of 86.2 percent for the third quarter is in line with last year’s all-time high for the same period. This is clearly a strong indication of the effectiveness of the company’s capacity management strategy in view of the increase in industry capacity that came into the markets in the quarter.

Rovinescu said that the airline expects that its EBITDAR and adjusted net income for the third quarter would match last year’s level for the same period.
