Air Canada to form new leisure unit, launch new low-cost airline in June next year

Leisure travelers can now look forward to Air Canada flights in a different format. Canada’s national flag carrier Air Canada recently announced it is planning to create a new leisure unit.

 The airline in a statement said that its new leisure unit will be formed after combining its existing tour business Air Canada Vacations with its new low-cost airline scheduled to be launched next year.

Calin Rovinescu, President and CEO of Air Canada, said that the creation of a leisure group is a major milestone for the airline. He expressed happiness that the airline’s successful tour operator business Air Canada Vacations is being combined with the new low-cost carrier.
 
According to Air Canada, the new low-cost leisure carrier is scheduled to start flights services in June next year. Initially, two Airbus A319 and Boeing 767-300ER aircrafts will be included in the fleet of the new low-cost carrier. The new discount carrier will be serving European and Caribbean destinations. The airline also said that the new low-cost carrier will also operate flights on new routes that are not being currently served by Air Canada.
