Air Canada transferring Embraer 175 aircraft fleet to Sky Regional next year

Canada’s national flag carrier Air Canada recently announced it will be transferring its entire Embraer 175 aircraft fleet to the privately-owned Sky Regional Airlines Inc. The fleet of 15 Embraer 175 aircraft, which were until now used to operate Air Canada flights, would be transferred next year as part of the airline’s cost-cutting measures.

Currently, Sky Regional is operating five Q400 turboprop planes on behalf of Air Canada between Toronto and Montreal. The flights are operated by Sky Regional between Montreal Trudeau Airport and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. The Embraer 175 aircraft fleet is likely to be transferred to Sky Regional between February and June next year.

According to Air Canada, the Embraer 175 aircrafts would continue to be utilized to be operated on short-haul regional routes, particularly from Montreal and Toronto to the northeast United States.

Air Canada also disclosed that it would be including two new Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts to its fleet in 2013 and would be expanding its capacity on its international network.
