Air France planning to launch new airline in Ivory Coast

Air France is planning to launch a new airline in the Ivory Coast, according to recent media reports.

The new carrier is being named Air Cote d'Ivoire, and is expected to begin operations at the end of April this year with Ivory Coast as its regional hub.

The new carrier will operate flights with the help of two leased Airbus A319s.

Media reports said that Alexandre de Juniac, CEO of Air France, was recently in the West African nation of Ivory Coast to discuss the venture with the government.

The reports further indicated that the Ivory Coast government would hold a 51 percent stake and Air France-KLM Group would hold a 35 percent stake with Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development of the Ivory Coast. The remaining 14 percent stake would be held by local investors.

Air France flights to Abidjan are being currently operated daily from Paris-Charles de Gaulle International Airport. The airline wants to build Abidjan Port Bouet Airport as a regional hub and further strengthen its operations in Africa.
