Air France plans to return to growth, to cut costs

After facing losses for some years now, Air France flights are aiming to become profitable in future. The airline recently announced plans to significantly reduce staff as well as curtail its short- and medium-distance fleet in an attempt to cut costs.

According to the airlines, Air France flights services that are regularly losing money due to low Air France flights tickets sale and are deemed as having no prospect of making money would be suspended.

The airline said that it is making serious efforts to make a turnaround in its fortune and return it on the path to profitability. The airline said that it had to face losses due to growing competition and rising jet fuel bills.

Air France has indicated that it will cut around 2,400 jobs over the next three years by not replacing staff. The airline wants to shed $2.5 billion of debt and operating costs over the next three years by cutting spending on its fleet as well as staff.
   
The airline disclosed that it is planning to completely overhaul its non-profitable French operations. Air France has also made plans to beef up its Transavia low-cost carrier as well as add new routes to its long-distance network. The airline is aiming for 20 percent efficiency gains by 2014.
