Paris CDG upgrade not to affect Air France flights to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

Air France has indicated that the significant upgrade of Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport recently will in no way affect Air France flights operations at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

Air France-KLM has stoutly denied that the role of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the company’s operations will be ever curtailed following the upgrade of Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Alexandre de Juniac, Chief Executive of Air France-KLM, said that the company will now be working with three hubs – Paris, Schiphol and Rome.

Alitalia, in which Air France-KLM holds 25 percent stake, currently has its main hub in Rome.

According to the airline, a refurbishment of Charles de Gaulle airport could make Paris an attractive location for transfer passengers on international flights.

Currently, transfer passengers are Amsterdam Schiphol Airport’s main source of income.

The recent move of Air France has left Amsterdam Schiphol Airport authorities greatly concerned. Now that 80 percent of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport’s capacity has been reserved for Air France-KLM, the airport authorities fear that if a large number of flights were to be rescheduled via Paris then there could be a dramatic fall in Air France flights.

Air France is taking these steps as part of its cost cutting measures, and wants to at least curtail 20 percent of its operational costs.
