Air New Zealand adding more capacity on its transpacific routes

New Zealand’s national flag carrier Air New Zealand recently announced it will be increasing its capacity further on its transpacific routes.

The airline in a statement said that it will be adding Air New Zealand flights on all three of its gateways in North America. The new flight services are scheduled to begin in April 2013.

Air New Zealand said that the new services are aimed at replacing 75 percent of the nonstop capacity between the U.S. and New Zealand that was earlier lost when Qantas Airways stopped operating flights on Auckland-Los Angeles route.

The airline further indicated that it is expected to announce further capacity increase beyond July 2013 for North America in the coming weeks. The airline said that the capacity additions are more likely to be on the existing routes only.

According to the airline, the flights services between Auckland and Los Angeles will become twice daily. Until April this year, the airline had been operating 12 weekly flights between the two destinations.
