Air New Zealand to charge for seat selection, excess baggage

Passengers booking Air New Zealand flights tickets will now have to spend extra for premium services. By asking its customers to pay more, the airline is trying to ape its rival Jetstar.

Air New Zealand recently announced that it is now introducing new fees for excess baggage and seat selection, on similar lines of its rival Jetstar.

According to the airline, passengers booking Air New Zealand flights would be asked to pay for their choicest seat. The passengers would also have to pay new charges for carrying excess baggage whether traveling to domestic destinations or on international routes. The new charges have already been imposed by the airline’s competitor Jetstar.

The airline disclosed that the new fees range from $5 for a standard seat on domestic flights to $75 for an exit row seat on long-haul international routes. The new fees have become effective now.

The airline said that the extra baggage would be charged per bag instead of per kilogram basis. The airline stated that an extra bag would now cost $30 for a domestic flight. However, the excess baggage charge would be $155 if the customer is taking a flight to London if paid ahead of check-in.
