Skyteam Airlines
Brief Profile
SkyTeam, the last of the three airline alliances, was founded in the year 2000 by
Aeroméxico, Air France, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air. It is based at the World
Trade Center Schiphol Airport on the grounds of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in Haarlemmermeer,
Netherlands. It is the second largest airline alliance in the world in terms of
the member airlines and the number of passengers that travel every year using its
network. Currently, there are 13 airlines from four continents in the SkyTeam alliance,
carrying the slogan “Caring more about you”. Besides, SkyTeam also operates a cargo
alliance called SkyTeam Cargo. The SkyTeam member airlines fly to 898 airports in
169 countries. With a combined fleet of 3,400 aircraft (including associate carriers),
SkyTeam operates approximately 13,000 daily flights. It has presently 415 lounges
worldwide to serve its 384 million passengers annually.
Members
The member airlines of SkyTeam includes Aeroflot, Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Air France,
Alitalia, China Southern Airlines, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Kenya Airways,
KLM, Korean Air, TAROM and Vietnam Airlines. The airlines to become members of the
SkyTeam network in future include Aerolíneas Argentinas, China Eastern Airlines,
China Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Middle East Airlines.
Benefits Offered
The SkyTeam alliance offers several benefits to the passengers flying on its member
airlines. The benefits include access to lounges, easy connections, various in-flight
amenities, corporate loyalty program, and many more.
Access to Airline Lounges:
All international First and Business Class passengers traveling on a same-day international
flight operated by a SkyTeam member airline have access to the exclusive facilities
at more than 415 lounges worldwide. SkyTeam Elite Plus members, along with a guest,
also have access to most lounges, irrespective of their travel class.
Frequent Flyer Program:
SkyTeam does not have its own frequent flyer program, though the individual member
airlines have their own frequent flyer programs. There are two premium levels –
Elite and Elite Plus – based on a customer’s tier status in a member airline’s frequent
flyer program.
