AirTran Airways to stop flying to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport from August 11

AirTran Airways flights are all set to completely ground their flight operations at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport starting from August 11, 2012.

The airline is taking the move at a time when its passenger traffic had slightly increased through H1 2012.

With a total of 214,426 passengers carried during the first half of this year, AirTran Airways remains the second largest carrier at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport after Delta Air Lines. The airline carried about 3,800 more passengers in H1 this year as compared to the same period in 2011.

AirTran Airways’ decision to stop its flights services out of Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is being considered as a tough blow for the airport as well as its customers. The airline began its flights services from Sarasota-Bradenton in late 2004.

AirTran Airways currently operates daily flights to Chicago, Atlanta and Baltimore. Apart from this, the airline also operates winter-to-spring flights services to Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Boston.
