American Airlines gave a tough challenge to their US domestic competitors by initiating the modest hike in the existing fares. The increase in fares now ranges from USD 3 one way for short-haul flights to USD 10 round trip for flights covering more than 500 miles.

The US domestic airlines include Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

Southwest Airlines will be adding 20 more Boeing 737-800s to its fleet by 2012. Further strength of the fleet will also be increased by 2013 and 2014. The new 737-800s are quite larger than the exciting 737-300s, 737-500s and 737-700s.

Southwest Airlines current fleet constitutes 737-300s, 737-500s and 737-700s, making a total of 544 aircraft. The new 737-800 aircraft will be used for domestic fleet first and then gradually be used for the beyond connecting destinations that include Alaska, Canada, Caribbean, Central America and Mexico.

Though 737-800, will add 38 more seats per aircraft but the Southwest’s single-cabin configuration will remain unchanged.

Turkish Airlines recently announced that they will increase services from March 2011, between New York and Istanbul.

Two flights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday will commence from 23rd March, 2011 to 25th April, 2011.  

Commencing from 26th April, 2011 to 28th October, 2011, the Airlines will provide two flights everyday to/ from New York.

Qantas Airways recently announced that they will upgrade five Airbus A380 aircrafts into service which will start operating at the end of the week. The four in A 380 are already in service and another new will be added to the fleet.

A new A 380 airbus is also expected to join the new fleet in the month of January.

Delta Airlines resumed the code-share agreement under which it will sells seats on Aeromexico planes. The code-sharing agreement will start from 29th December. 2011.

The agreement came under the vogue of US Federal Aviation Administration’s recent decision to bring back Mexico’s aviation safety rating to category 1, as the Mexico’s civil aviation authority fulfilled the international safety standards.

Singapore Airlines are now offering Christmas discounts on their flights flying from San Francisco to Seoul at USD 726 R/t. The last date of ticket purchase is 31st January, 2011 for the travel period from 11th January, 2011 to 31st March, 2011.
