Icelandair will be organizing a very special event named “The Last Bostonian Skating” for the Special Children Travel Fund and The Children’s Hospital Boston. The special event will take place at Kendall Square Community Ice Skating Rink on 5th March 2011. The event will offer a fun time to all its visiting guests. The airline invites all the adventure seekers and creative thinkers to be a part of this skating event.

There will be a tough competition among five teams who will quest in a series of trails, testing endurance, speed, showmanship, and creativity. The winning team will be awarded a trip to Iceland. Through this event the airline will help to raise money and awareness for a greater cause.

The spectators can help by raising funds for The Special Children Travel Fund and The Children’s Hospital Boston and also enjoy free admission and skate rentals. Visit the annual spectacular event at Boston, which will possess the Icelandic flavor.

Swiss International voted Best Short-Haul Carrier

A Swiss International Airline has been recently named as the 2010 Airline of the Year in the short-haul category by the Switzerland’s ReiseBlick travel magazine. More than 1400 readers of the magazine voted Swiss to be best among the other 51 competitors.

SWISS Chief Commercial Officer, Holger Hatty while accepting the distinction said, “We are particularly delighted to win this award because it has been bestowed directly by our customers.”

The polling survey was done by the ReiseBlick magazine among the readers who traveled through air in past year. the selection criteria included quality and customer satisfaction both at the check-in and on board, and the travelers sense of satisfy and security both before and during the flight journey. Other thigs were also covered such as friendliness of the personnel, the inflight entertainment, legroom, general value-for-money and punctuality.

The airline was famed with the same name in the same category in 2007 and was ranked second in the next two years by the ReiseBlick magazine. The airline also earned the second position in 2010 in the middlehaul category, which was also conducted by ReiseBlick. The first place in the medium-haul category was taken by Edelweiss Air.

This distinction is the follow up of the SWISS Best Airline for Europe and Best Airline for North & South America, by the Business Traveller. The airline was also awarded for the nest first class seat by the Global Traveler Award.

BMI to operate flights to new city, Tripoli, Libya

BMI recently announced its new connectivity to Tripoli, in Libya. Starting from 21st February 2011, the carrier will be operating daily flight service to the city from London, Heathrow. Tripoli is the commercial centre that offers business opportunities to all its visitors. The newly introduced service will prove to be a boon for the business travelers and other travelers who return to the city to meet their family and friends.

The flight service will offer two cabin short-haul European products, thus giving a choice of business class and coach class to all the passengers traveling Tripoli.  The business class cabin will be equipped with 31-32 inches seat pitch with 2:2 seating configuration. The middle seat in the business class will be kept free.  The passengers will be allowed to take 40 kg free hold baggage allowance, two pieces of cabin baggage, and one personal item.

The business class passengers will also be able to enjoy the complimentary hot meals and drinks onboard. Passengers will have a choice of seat selection that could be made while booking the flight tickets. The business class passengers will also have an access to the BMI business class lounges at London, Heathrow and Lufthansa Business Class lounge at Tripoli.

The economy class cabin will be equipped with 31-32 inches seat pitch with 3:3 seating configuration. The passengers will be allowed to take 30 kg free hold baggage allowance, one piece of cabin baggage, and one personal item. Passengers will be served with complimentary sandwiches and drinks onboard. The passengers will also have the liberty to select seats but only at the time of check-in.

The BMI, Diamond Club members will receive double destinations miles on flights that will fly until 30th April 2011 between London and Tripoli. The members will only have to enter the membership number into PNR while booking their flight tickets. The star alliance members will also be able to earn double Plus Points under the airline Company Plus scheme until 30th April 2011.

The scheduled flights BD469 will depart at 10.45 am from London and will arrive at 04.20 pm in Tripoli. The return leg BD470 will depart at 05.15 pm from Tripoli and will arrive in London at 06.45 pm.

BMI adds new routes on its cards

BMI recently announced new routes connectivity from London and Manchester to Basel, Switzerland. The new service will begin from 27th March 2011. The three day service per day on weekdays and two day service on Saturday and Sunday will be operated by flights in partnership with SWISS International.

Basel city, which is situated on river Rhine, holds a strategic connectivity to some of the best skiing regions is Switzerland. The city also gives easy access to Alsace and Germany’s Black forest as the three countries when connected form a triangle. The services will be beneficial to all the business customers as the new route offers direct and regular service to the commercial city.

Airbus A319 aircraft will be used that will offer business class and economy class seats to all the interested passengers.

The business class cabin will be equipped with 31-32 inches seat pitch with 2:2 seating configuration where the middle seat will be kept free.  The passengers will be allowed 30 kg free hold baggage allowance, two pieces of cabin baggage, and one personal item. Passengers will be able to enjoy the hot breakfast served until 09.30 am and also the hot meals offered round the clock. There will also be a choice of seat selection that the passengers can make while booking their flight tickets.

The business class passengers will also have an access to the BMI business class lounges at Manchester and London Heathrow and SWISS Business Class lounge at Basel. The passengers can also get their baggage checked by using the online and self check-in service at the UK and Basel airport and for the others can get their baggage check-in at a Separate Premium Check-in desk in the UK and Basel within 30 minutes at London airport.

The economy class cabin will be equipped with 31-32 inches seat pitch with 3:3 seating configuration. The passengers will be allowed 20 kg free hold baggage allowance, one piece of cabin baggage, and one personal item. Passengers will be served with complimentary hot breakfast Panini that will be served until 9.30 am, and sandwiches and drinks at the bar for the rest of the day. The economy class passengers will have the liberty to select seats but at the time of check-in and will also be able to use the online and self check-in service at the UK and Basel airports.

Turkish Airlines borrows two A320 carriers

Turkish Airlines is will be taking two A320-200 aircrafts on lease from the Crescent Leasing.

The airline will take the delivery of first plane this month and the second one in the next month. The airline will sign the lease agreement with Crescent for 72 months.

The airline is planning to increase its fleet from last year’s 153 to 175 planes this year to gain the European and Middle Eastern market shares from its peers.

Qatar Airways to expand its service in Europe

Qatar Airways will soon be operating its flights between Doha and Venice. The services are expected to commence from 15th June 2011, which is also an important holiday season.

The new city will be the airline’s third destination after Milan and Rome in Italy. A daily flight service will be operated from Doha International Airport. Airbus carrier A320 equipped with 132 economy seats and 12 of business class seat will be made to run on the new route. The move will further make Venice open to the Qatar’s wider network.

The flight QR 961 will depart daily from Doha at 9.10 am and will arrive in Venice Marco Polo at 2.30 pm. The round trip flight QR962 will depart from 4.40 pm and will return in Doha at 11.25pm.

The airline CEO Akbar Al Baker said: “Venice is a vibrant city with incredible appeal among leisure and business travelers, and we are confident that our new daily flights will be equally successful as our daily services to Rome and Milan.”
