BAs B787 Dreamliner takes off its maiden journey

by Richa 16. August 2013 06:47

The special aircraft departed from Edinburgh for a round trip over the Highlands and Scottish Islands. It was a memorable experience for 30 Scottish frequent fliers who had booked plane tickets with the carrier on this particular day. These customers were not only delighted to take the flight but were also decorated to become the first BA passengers to fly on the B787 Dreamliner.

Simon Scholey, BA's chief technical pilot, who was handling the controls, said that the airline is happy to hit the skies on its maiden journey. He expressed pleasure at the carrier’s chance to demonstrate the might of this contemporary aircraft to passengers in Edinburgh.

The airline also displayed this modern aircraft to the curious aficionados in Derby and Newcastle as a mark of respect to all involved in its manufacturing and assembling.

This was the aircraft’s first and the last journey from the Scottish capital as British Airways has no plans to operate commercially out of Edinburgh again. However, Thomson Airways has been flying Dreamliners on Glasgow-Florida and Glasgow-Mexico routes from the past one month.

BA is set to commence passenger service on London Heathrow-Toronto and London Heathrow-Newark routes beginning September 1 and October 1, 2013 respectively.
