Lufthansa Airlines and its subsidiary Austrian Airlines has decided to discontinue their flights to Tripoli, Libya with immediate effect. Lufthansa flew thrice a week and Austrian flew twice a week to Tripoli. The airline had started its Tripoli service just a year ago after Muammar Gaddafi’s rule came to an end.
Lufthansa spokeswomen said that they have taken this decision post the tensed situations developed in Libya. The airline feels that it is not safe to fly to Tripoli since the locals have declared European companies, people and interests as their enemies. She also mentioned that the airline will resume its flights between Frankfurt and Tripoli when the situation with ease down.
Lufthansa has taken the decision to discontinue Tripoli flights second time this year. Earlier also Lufthansa Airline Flights to Tripoli had to be stopped due to security concerns.
