Alaska Airlines announced today that it is terminating its frequent-flier alliance with Icelandair. This alliance will come to an end with effect from June 1, 2013. This implies that passengers with Alaska frequent-flier miles will not be able to use these miles against international flights operated by Icelandair to nearly two dozen European cities.
The airline said that passengers buying Icelandair tickets post May 31 will not be eligible for Alaska Mileage Plan credit. However all tickets bought on or before May 31 will earn mileage and the same could be redeemed through February 28, 2014.
The airline also said that Award travel on Icelandair will not be allowed for any kind of changes post May 31. Due to this break-up passengers would not find it difficult to consume their Alaska miles. Icelandair at present operates from Sea-Tac to Iceland, from where it connects to more than two dozen European destinations.
