Following the footsteps of its peers, Alaska Airlines announced its decision to lift prices for checking baggage. Passengers booking Alaska Airline tickets on or after Oct 30, 2013 will have to pay $25 extra for first and second checked baggage. For any other additional baggage the cost to be paid is $75.
At present the airline charges $20 per baggage for first three bags. However, the Seattle based airline will stick to its unique baggage service. As per this service the customers can find their baggage at the baggage claim area within 20 minutes of the plane parking, failing which the airline will pay compensation. Currently the airline offers a $20 discount code to be used on next flight or 2,000 bonus frequent fliers miles. Subsequently this discount will rise to $25 and the miles to 2,500.
The airline is also raising the fee to change tickets to $125. Presently it charges $75 for an online change and $100 for a change made through call centers.
