British Airways new Aberdeen-London City route launched

British Airways flights will now be operated between Aberdeen and London. The airline recently announced the launch of its new Aberdeen-London City Airport route.

The airline succeeded in claiming this route after trouncing its rival CityJet. The route is expected to take advantage of oil firms based near the Docklands airport.

The airline in a statement said that British Airways’ subsidiary CityFlyer will be operating three return flights per day between Aberdeen and London City starting September 24, 2012.

British Airways immediately swung into action to get this route into its kitty after it came to know about its rival CityJet’s plans to operate the route to cash in on traffic from oil firms near the Docklands airport. The move has also come ahead of an expected cut in Aberdeen-London Heathrow flights from British Airways parent IAG’s takeover of BMI.

Aviation experts, however, said that CityJet had failed to give final shape to its plans because of restructuring this spring by its Air France parent.
British Airways said that Aberdeen has been an important part of is network for many years and will continue to be so in future as well.
