China Airlines profits likely to take off in Q3

Taiwanese carrier China Airlines flights are expected to perform well in the third quarter of this year and significantly improve their profitability.

China Airlines, which suffered from slight pre-tax loss of $1.26 million (38 million Taiwanese Dollars) in the second quarter of 2012, is hoping to achieve profitability in the third quarter of 2012. The forecast has been made by institutional investors.

Travel experts have however said that the passenger traffic of the airline is forecast to remain stable in the third quarter.

China Airlines recently announced its operational results for the first half of this year and reported revenue earnings of $2.17 billion (65.38 billion Taiwan Dollars). The airline’s net operating loss was $40.2 million (1.20 billion Taiwan dollars). The airline further stated that its pre-tax loss was $39.4 million (1.18 billion Taiwan Dollars), while its after-tax net loss was $34.6 million (1.04 billion Taiwan Dollars), up from $22 million (661 million Taiwan Dollars) y-o-y.

The airline outlined its third-quarterly outlook and claimed revenue earnings of $414 million (248 million Taiwan Dollars) in July.
