Copa Airlines gains immensely at Panama City airport

Panama’s flagship carrier Copa Airlines has said that it has gained significantly at its main hub at Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport. Copa Airlines said that it has been the largest customer at the Tocumen International Airport, and is thankful that the airport, which is conveniently located in central point of the Americas, has greatly contributed to its success.

The airline said that it has been the main growth driver at the airport for over two decades now after it decided to transform Panama City into the “Hub of the Americas”.

Media reports said that Copa Airlines being a strong home-based carrier has worked wonders for Panama City by making it into an indisputable success story over the last decade. The reports said that the passenger traffic at the Tocumen International Airport continued to grow against financial odds thus achieving an average rate of growth of 14.1 percent between 2003 and 2012. 

According to the reports, the passenger numbers grew from 2.15 million in 2003 to a staggering nearly 7 million in 2012. At this rate, the airline maintained double digit annual growth in all years except in 2009 and 2010. The reports said that the years 2009 and 2010 proved difficult for Copa Airlines as it was for several other airlines in the world because of the global economic downturn, and such a slowdown in the passenger traffic was only to be expected.

Copa Airlines is presently offering 941 flights every week from Panama City across it snetwork of 62 destinations. The airline’s traffic at Tocumen International airport increased 9.3 percent in August 2013 as compared to the same month in 2012.
