Gowda established a fortification on the land with the help of the local king and Bangalore continued to be ruled for the next three hundred years by a succession of local rulers until 1831 when it was annexed by the British colonists. The British took a fancy to Bangalore as it was blessed with a year round pleasant climate that reminded them of ‘home’ and they soon established their administrative capital in the city. They then went about modernizing the city according to their needs and built railway lines, communication systems along with imposing buildings and many verdant parks.
After Indian dependence in 1947, Bangalore continued to maintain its prominent position in the Indian economy and today this city which is the capital of the state of Karnataka is well known the world over as an important center for the global I.T. industry.
