The capital city of Oman, Muscat, is nestled in the north eastern region of the country. The hub of government affairs, Muscat is the largest city in what is known as ‘Governorate of Muscat’ and has its area divided into six divisions known as wilayats.
Located along the Gulf of Oman, in Arabian Sea, with the Western Al Hajar Mountains seeming to dictate the northern shoreline, Muscat has an interesting and pleasing topography. The natural port city is bounded to the east by the Ash Shargiyah region and to its west by the Al Batinah Region. The tropic of Cancer passes south of the capital. One can find rocks like Plutonic rocks, volcanic rocks, basalt, serpentine and greenstone here. Besides this, one can also find coral reefs here.
Muscat has a hot and dry climate. The rainy season, if it can be called that, can be experienced in March. Rest of the year one has to brave the heat. The summers are exceedingly hot and long and even the winters are warm! Nonetheless, visitors get their cheap business class flights to Muscat, booked and fly to the capital port city to enjoy its beauty.
The city has several mosques, temples and churches to its credit. The most famous are Ruwi Mosque, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Zawawi Mosque, a Shiv and Krishna Temple. Besides this one can even visit the museums including Oman Children's Museum, Museum of Omani Heritage, Omani French Museum, National Museum of Oman, Bait al Zubair, Oman Natural History Museum, Omani Aquarium and Marine Science and Fisheries Center and Oman Oil and Gas Exhibition Center.
