A coastal city in the Mexican Caribbean, Cancun makes for a wonderful vacation spot. If you are considering booking your cheap airfares for flights to Cancun or have already booked your cheap flights to Cancun, then here’s a rundown on all that you need to know to have a safe vacation.
When to Go?
The best time to book your tickets to Cancun is from December to April as the weather is wonderful; though enjoying the Cancun weather can come at a steep price, as being the peak season, the rates here tend to get hiked astronomically. Those opting for vacations here from May to September are likely to experience much warmer temperatures. From mid-September till mid-November you are likely to see Cancun at its rainy best. Since late summers are also prone to hurricanes, it can prove to be not too great a time to enjoy your Cancun vacation, though it definitely eases your money situation.
Besides this, for any of these three special times - Easter, Christmas or spring break, you will have to book your cheap tickets to Cancun well in advance, up to three months at least.
Cancun Caution!
Water
Drinking un-bottled water in Cancun can prove to be a risky thing. Mostly all resorts and restaurants offer purified water but you should still ask before being served. Outside of these premises, if you do not buy bottled water, you are just risking your health. So be cautious.
Ocean Currents
For those of who cannot say much when it comes to swimming or are non-swimmers looking out for sum water fun, stay clear off the beaches! Your best bets are the hotel beaches manned by lifeguards. Do not even consider stepping into the deeper ocean currents for it is really tough to fathom the strength of a current and before you know it, you can be swept away by it. For those of you who are desirous of swimming out in the open, keep an eye out for the colored flags that have been planted on the Cancun beaches.
Yet another water caution that you should adhere to is avoiding being in the water when the weather changes, for a sudden tropical storm is not unheard of in this area, and is best avoided for your safety.
Scams
Like any other city, Cancun too is riddled with scams and cons, most of them being perpetrated on naïve vacationers. The rule of thumb here is that – nothing is free. So if you have strangers come up to you and offer anything which is ‘free’ or at a ‘discounted rate’, you should avoid them. What actually transpires is that in the garb of discounts etc you are asked to sit through a couple of hours of presentations on timeshare and condos. So if this isn’t really your cup of tea, avoid these over-enthusiastic sales reps.
ATMs
Though the entire area is dotted with ATMs, the best place for any visitor to take out money is from the ATM that is inside their resort/hotel. This way you escape chances of identity theft etc.
