Gearing for the Mother City

South Africa’s number one tourist attraction and legislative capital is Cape Town. Coordinated and set up under the Dutch East India Company, this city is known for some of its magnificent landmarks such as the Cape Point and Table Mountain. The city celebrates enjoyable events throughout the year, with each festival highlighting the classy capital.

A day after New Year, flights to Cape Town halt at the Cape Town International Airport, as passengers come from across the world to attend a series of upcoming events, including the magnificent Minstrels Carnival held the very same day. This gala involves funky get-ups, street entertainment and food to give you the true flavor of the city.

Following that is the world premier horse race, called L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate. Featuring the rich and famous from around the seven continents, this popular sporting event fascinates its spectators. Besides horses, the city holds the Cape to Rio Yacht Race for yachting-enthusiasts, leading a direct line from Cape Town to Rio de Janerio.

In the month of February, there is a three-day musical event along the banks of the River Breede. This event, called Up the Creek Music Festival is about partying, bathing in the sun and swimming in the cool water. For athletes and fans of the African history, the Nelson Mandela 27 for Freedom Race is luring. It is a tribute to Mandela’s 27 years spent in jail for political reasons. It’s the race of commemoration!
