The Quintessential Packing Guide for Costa Rica

A fast emerging top-notch travel destination, Costa Rica comes across as a thrilling holiday retreat. With its abundance of awe-inspiring sights and rousing adventure options, many vacationers are opting to book their flights for this Central American country.

When to Go to Costa Rica
The best time to book your cheap flight deals and cheap tickets to Costa Rica is from mid-December to April as this is when the country has the sunniest days. May onwards the weather changes and afternoon showers are not unheard of. This period, from May to November, is dubbed as the ‘green season’ by the natives. The best part about booking your tickets for this time is that you can find lesser people around and enjoy the place a lot more. The disappointing part of the season is that you have to bear the sudden showers that interrupt your outside time as well as the humidity.

Packing
The rule of thumb for packing for a Costa Rican vacation is to travel light, and that begins with your suitcase. Opt for one that is very easy to maneuver and light weight. If you are up to using duffel bags, do so for this vacation, as chances are that you might have to carry your own luggage. Also opt for that piece of luggage which can easily be folded or just shoved into corners as there are chances that you may not find separate luggage compartments. Hence prepare for all eventualities.

Next point of consideration is – what goes into the lightweight bag/suitcase of yours. Considering Costa Rica’s love with humidity, you will have to forgo your jeans for this trip, because it takes ages to dry. Pack in those clothes which are light-weight, comfortable and something that dries easily. If it can be hand washed, better. Do not only pack summer clothes, because if you are going deeper inside the land, or probably to the National Park, you will need something warm to cover you. Get clothes that cover your arms and legs, for the insects, ants, mosquitoes in the deeper-forests can show no mercy.

Bring your own set of sun block and other toiletries, as you might not be able to find one of your choices here. If you can then carry your own equipment for snorkeling etc, but in case you do not have you can rent it from near the beaches. Also, do not forget to carry a wind cheater or a waterproof jacket.

Pack good quality hiking boots and other footwear that can withstand getting into mud, water etc. You will also do well to carry your own pair of socks, both long and short ones. Definitely get knee-length socks to wear underneath rubber boots. Also make it a point to carry spare batteries, portable water bottles, extra film, toilet paper (very important here, as you may not always be provided with it here) and insect repellent creams.
