The Dos and Don’ts of Driving on an LA Freeway

The City of Angels, Los Angeles, can be a tricky one to maneuver if you haven’t taken a crash course in LA driving. Since that is a good way of exploring the city as compared to flagging down a cab, here are a few pointers you will do well to remember and follow.

The first one is to know which lane to pick and then sticking to it. The LA freeway has four rather distinct lanes- the fast lane (which you as an LA freeway virgin should totally avoid), the truck lane (which along with the fast lane makes the two right lanes), the car-pool lane (also known as the diamond lane) and the merge lane. The best lane you would be the middle one as this is usually synchronous with the recommended speed limit.

Before you decide to take a turn, keep in mind to signal form a decent distance behind as with so many lanes, this might create an utter chaos! If this becomes too intimidating then buy yourself a freeway map. The best way to spend a few dollars in LA, the freeway map can most of the time, be a life savior, especially when you are stuck in traffic and are looking for an alternative route. The maps can be easily bought at a roadside gas station. While traveling, ensure that you travel safe and keep your doors locked. Also do not give lifts to anyone who signals for it.

Most importantly, never ever stop suddenly on the freeway, irrespective of whatever! Even if you have missed a certain exit, drive till the next one and then consult your map how to retrace your steps.

The best time to book your inexpensive flight tickets for LA is actually all the time! This perpetual party zone has people from all over the world booking their cheap tickets to Los Angeles as when the mood strikes them. Depending on your travel plans you can opt for getting your flight tickets booked from May to November to May when the weather is rather sunny without being too cold. A slight nip in the air can be expected which makes it all the more great to be out here. If you have booked flights to Los Angeles for anytime during July, August and September then be prepared to shell a lot more than you usually would have, as during these three months, the visitors flock to this chic city a lot more.

During your LA vacation do not forget to tip the customary rate of 15%-20% when it comes to cab drivers and waiters. To all others, i.e. housekeeping, bellboys etc, depending on the service provided, you can shell out a couple of dollars per day.

While exploring the city, avoid doing so on Mondays as a lot of places are closed. But there are still few really good ones which aren’t, so find out before you land up at the place of your interest.
