Parade competitions are the hallmark of the carnival. The competition now begins with the Access or Gold Group competing at the Sambadrome on the first Friday and Saturday of Carnival. The new schools also get opportunity to stage their best performance by taking part in Samba parade competition. The Special Group, which comprises the most talented Samba schools, would be competing on Sunday and Monday of Carnival. The newer schools or the groups with little experience are also not to be left behind and hold their competition separately on Tuesday at the Sambadrome. The main aim of these less experienced or newer schools is that they want to move ahead in the rankings and like to see themselves placed in the Special Group. Later on Tuesday itself the Children’s Parade is also held at the Sambadrome. The children emulate their parents and develop their own theme, write a song and finally choreograph their own dances as well. Also, the winners of the top 6 Samba school in the Special Group are once again invited to put on another show for the people assembled at the Sambadrome.
