Tel Aviv gears for the Marathon in February

Tel Aviv is gearing to host the latest edition of the annual Marathon dubbed Tel Aviv Marathon. The yearly event is one of the most anticipated events that Tel Aviv city looks forward to with excitement. Men and women will descend to the Israeli capital on 28th of February 2014 to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship. The marathon is set to be flagged off from Charles Clore Park.

Tel Aviv marathon was inaugurated in the year 1981 and has since caught the fancy of the people of the country as well as foreigners who wish to participate in the pulsating event. the event was religiously held each year until 1994 and then it took a hiatus. It was formally revived back in the year 2009 and since has been held each year without fail. Participants from across the globe can book cheap flights to Tel Aviv with airlines like Transaero, British Airways, Turkish Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines.

The marathon attracts about 18,000 runners who rush to the city to register their participation. The excitement and nervousness is visible on their faces as they stand on their marks waiting for the green signal to go ahead. It is one of the largest sporting adventures in the city as well as the country. Last year at least 35, 000 runners are believed to have participated in the event. The official record timings in the Men’s event category is held by Tumo Turbo, who finished in 2:14:56 in the 1992 edition. The women’s record holder is Worknesh Shasha Oda finishing in 2:40:35 in the year 2011.
