“Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” now in Tel Aviv till August 28

The tragedy of the RMS Titanic has continued to bewilder people and catch their imagination since ages. The Titanic is now a legend and has even prompted Hollywood filmmakers to even make a movie named “Titanic” in 1997 starring famous actors Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by James Cameron. The movie was a subject of interest for most people so much that it became a huge box-office success. The movie became an all-time hit and won 11 Academy Awards.

The Titanic continues to be a rage even today. The artifacts procured from the ill-fated RMS Titanic ship after salvaging it from the Atlantic Ocean have become a source of keen interest and are now being exhibited worldwide. A unique exhibition showcasing RMS Titanic’s artifacts is being held in different parts of the world.

The exhibition, which was until now being held in Russia, has moved on to Tel Aviv in June this year. The exhibition is being held for three months at Tel Aviv’s Israel Trade Fairs Center starting from June 5 through August 28, 2014.This is for the first time that an exhibition of such kind is being held in Israel. The exhibition will showcase over 200 artifacts. Several priceless items used on board the Titanic such as delicate chinaware, cutlery crafted from precious metals, tableware, diamond-studded clothing, eyeglasses and jewelry will be on display.

If you are passionate about knowing all that happened on the Titanic, then consider booking cheap flights to Tel Aviv right away and visit this unique exhibition. This will be a great opportunity for you to see some of the rare artifacts such as toy marbles made delicately from glass, elegant white and blue flower-patterned Delft china plate used in second-class cabins, marvelous silver pot for serving café au lait and hot chocolate to passengers in first-class restaurants, which are being prominently showcased at the exhibition. All the artifacts being on display were salvaged after deep-sea dives in 1987 with the help of advanced marine technology.

The unique exhibition being held in Tel Aviv now also holds a special significance for Israel and its people. Some Jews were also on board the Titanic when the tragedy took place. They were returning to America or were planning to emigrate there. There was a kosher kitchen on the ship as well which strictly conformed to the Jewish dietary laws. Prominent Jewish couple Ida and Isidor Strauss, who co-owned New York’s renowned Macy’s Department Store, were on board the Titanic and perished in the tragedy.

The luxurious British passenger liner “Titanic” was considered to be a “practically unsinkable” ship, and was the safest and world’s largest ever to be built. The ship set out on its maiden voyage in 1912 some 102 years ago from Great Britain’s Southampton city to New York City in the United States amid great fanfare. The ship was carrying over 2,000 elite American and European passengers. However, the ship met with an accident only after four days of its journey when it hit an iceberg just south of Newfoundland. The accident was severe and the Titanic sank more than 12,000 feet in the seabed.
