Frontier Airlines among five airlines being considered by American Airlines for merger

Frontier Airlines recently announced it is foremost among five airlines being actively considered for merger by American Airlines.

According to media reports, American Airlines is showing a keen interest in a merger, and is considering Frontier Airlines, the first among five airlines presently being studied.

A travel expert was quoted by media reports as saying that Frontier Airlines currently flies on some of the attractive routes, particularly into Mexico. However, only a merger can ensure bagging these routes, which are potential revenue earners.

Another travel expert however presented rather a divergent view. Media reports quoted the travel expert as saying that Frontier Airlines-American Airlines merger is very unlikely. He based his perceptions on finances and routes saying that Frontier Airlines was in the not too distant past had neared bankruptcy, and this adds minimal gains to American Airlines finances.

American Airlines is currently in bankruptcy protection and its owner is still considering viable merger options.
There are approximately 500 daily Frontier Airlines flights that operate out of its three main hubs at Denver, Milwaukee and Kansas City airports.
