Frontier Airlines Bismarck flights proposal gets approval

The proposal to bring Frontier Airlines flights to Bismarck has been unanimously approved by the City Commission recently.

Bismarck city officials are making extensive efforts to reach a deal with Frontier Airlines to offer low-cost flights to Denver five days every week.

Frontier Airlines is being offered an attractive package of incentives to begin flight services to Denver from Bismarck. The package includes $50,000 for marketing and a guarantee that the airline wouldn’t lose money during the first year of service.

The City Commission voted on the proposal unanimously allowing airport officials to offer a “loss backstop” of up to $200,000 for covering any financial losses incurred by Frontier Airlines owing to the creation of the new flight route. Te City Commission indicated that the money would be coming from the city’s existing sales tax base.

Frontier Airlines has been given 60 days to approve the deal. According to Federal Aviation Administration rules, any other airline is also allowed to introduce a counter-proposal to offer similar service and take advantage of the City Commission’s incentive package during those 60 days given to Frontier Airlines to finally accept the proposal.
