Frontier Airlines ends flights to Aspen

Frontier Airlines flights to Aspen will no longer be available now. The airline recently announced it has discontinued its flights to Aspen.
The move has worried tourism officials at the glitzy resort of Aspen and spurred them to act swiftly to plug in the service gap urgently.

Frontier Airlines in a statement said that it is no longer financially viable to continue operations to Aspen this winter and maintain its fleet of four Q400 turboprops. The aircrafts of the airline are the only ones that had successfully navigated the mountainous terrain and landed at Aspen’s Sardy Field.

Peter Kowalchuk, spokesman for Frontier Airlines’ parent company Republic Airways, said that with the ending of Aspen service the Q400s will now be flown on other routes through August. He also said that the 25 pilots and 27 flight attendants working on the Denver-Aspen route will be transferred to other aircrafts operated by Republic Airways.

The end of Frontier Airlines’ two daily round-trip flights to Denver has greatly concerned Aspen tourism officials, who said that the grounding of flights would eliminate 16 percent of the airport’s current capacity.
