Frontier Airlines enplanements at Aspen airport down 5.2 percent in 2011

Passenger traffic at the Aspen-Pitkin Country Airport has dipped 2.1 percent in 2011. According to airport officials, in 2011 enplanements totaled 223,078 passengers. This is a slight decline when compared to 2010, when enplanements totaled 227,784 passengers.

The year 2010 was the busiest year for commercial traffic since 1998. In 2010, the passengers total was up 3.7 percent as compared to 2009.

Aspen airport is currently served by American Eagle, Frontier Airlines and United Express.

A top official at the airport said that enplanements on Frontier Airlines were down 5.2 percent in 2011. Frontier Airlines’ enplanements totaled 46,943 during the year. However, Jim Elwood, Aviation Director at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, pointed out that the airline had reduced the number of flights it operated in and out of Aspen.

Frontier Airlines and United Express operate year-round flights in and out of Aspen. While, American Eagle, which accounted for 1,181 enplanements after it started its flight services from December 15 last year, offers seasonal flights during the winter and summer months.
