Garuda Indonesia to reinstate Taiwan flights in May

Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia recently announced that it will be resuming its flights to Taiwan in May this year.

Garuda Indonesia flights to Taipei from Jakarta will be resumed starting May 25, 2012, after it was suspended nearly eight months ago in September 2004 following an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The outbreak of the deadly disease had severely affected Taiwan and other countries in the region adversely impacting on their tourism and economy.

The passengers will get an opportunity to make Garuda Indonesia flight reservations as the airline will be offering one roundtrip flight daily between Taipei and Jakarta. The airline will deploy Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route.

The flights to Taipei are being resumed at a time when Tourism Indonesia is making extensive efforts to promote some of the less well known attractions in the Southeast Asian country.

Indonesia wants to aggressively promote its less-visited tourist destination Komodo Island, the natural habitat of the world's largest lizard the Komodo Dragon.

China Airlines and EVA Airways are two of Taiwan’s leading international carriers currently providing daily roundtrip flights between Taipei and Jakarta.
