Hawaiian Airlines expansion into Asia starts bearing fruit

Hawaiian Airlines recently expressed its strong belief that its expansion into Asia during the past 18 months have started to bear fruit.

The airline in a statement said that the revenue share from the sale of Hawaiian Airlines flights tickets is growing as the flights begin to mature. The airline said that it can now begin charting normal trends on its new routes after launching Hawaiian Airlines flights to Tokyo Haneda and Osaka in Japan.

Apart from Tokyo and Osaka, Hawaiian Airlines also launched new flights from Honolulu to Seoul in January 2011.

Data from the US Department of Transportation indicated that the airline recorded a nearly 79 percent load factor on flights originating from Tokyo Haneda, 74 percent load factor on flights from Osaka and 72 percent load factor on new service from Seoul to Honolulu in 2011, despite the challenging circumstances.

Mark Dunkerley, CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, recently said that the load factors on the airline’s international routes are generally lower than on North American routes, but the airline has been able to charge favorable prices in its international markets, particularly on flights from Japan and Sydney.
