Hawaiian Airlines second most fuel-efficient airline in the U.S.

Hawaiian Airlines has yet another good news for its travelers. The airline has been voted as the second most fuel-efficient airline in the United States. The airline along with a competitor and budget-carrier Spirit Airlines was tied for the second spot.

The carrier lost the first slot to Alaska Airlines. Seattle-based Alaska’s fuel efficiency score read 1.11, while both Spirit and Hawaiian attained 1.09. These results were declared by International Council on Clean Transportation. The organization rated these airlines on categories like fuel-efficient engines, kind of winglets used, percentage of seats filled, taxiing methods, and flight routes.

These parameters played a pivotal role in determining the fuel efficiency of the carriers, which in turn have a direct impact on the climate change worldwide. It believes that airlines operating long haul flights are more efficient as a lot of fuel is consumed during takeoff and landing. Passengers booking Hawaiian Airlines tickets would be proud to fly with an airline that shares a common concern for the environment.

It is the largest airline operating out of its base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Overall it is the 11th largest passenger airline in the United States. Its main hub is located at Honolulu International Airport and secondary hub is based in Kahului Airport, Maui.
