Hawaiian orders 6 new A330-800neo aircraft, delivery from 2019

Hawaiian Airlines recently signed a MoU with leading aircraft maker Airbus for purchasing 6 new A330-800neo aircrafts. The airline also acquired rights to purchase 6 additional aircrafts in future. The aircrafts, whose delivery will begin in 2019, will help the airline to fulfill its objectives of starting new nonstop destinations from Hawaii Islands.

Hawaiian Airlines had earlier placed order for 6 Airbus A350XWB-800 aircraft, but finally cancelled it and instead decided to purchase 6 Airbus A330-800neo aircrafts. These aircrafts were scheduled for delivery from 2017.

The new Airbus A330-800 neo aircrafts will be configured in two classes – First Class and Coach Class. The wide-body aircrafts will have a capacity to accommodate 294 passengers. According to Hawaiian Airlines, the wide-body A330-800neo aircrafts will be similar in size with that of its A330-200 aircrafts.

Providing further details about the Airbus A330-800neo aircrafts, the airline said that they will be equipped with new cabin features and aerodynamic enhancements will be incorporated. The new aircrafts will also be fitted with the latest Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines and will significantly reduce fuel consumption by at least 14 percent per seat.

Hawaiian Airlines presently owns a big fleet of 50 aircrafts comprising of 29 wide-body long-haul aircrafts, 18 narrow-body aircrafts and three 48-seater ATR42-500 aircrafts. The airline’s wide-body fleet comprises of Boeing 767-300 and Airbus A330-200 aircrafts. The narrow-body fleet comprises of Boeing 717-200 aircrafts with a seating capacity of 118 to 123. The airline is currently using its ATR42-500 aircrafts for conducting Neighbor Island flights.

Hawaiian Airlines will also be taking delivery of four additional new Airbus A330-200 aircrafts by 2015, while the delivery of 16 narrow-body A321neo aircrafts will start in 2017.
