Hong Kong Airlines adding three new aircrafts in two years

Hong Kong Airlines recently announced it is planning to add at least three new aircrafts into its fleet in the next two years. The airline in a statement said that it wants to see Hong Kong Airlines flights to increase their competitiveness in the face of growing rivalry from several budget carriers.

Jeff Sun Jianfeng, Hong Kong Airlines’ Executive Vice President, said that the airline has also made extensive plans to replace all its existing Boeing aircrafts with Airbus for standardizing its fleet. By doing so, the airline wants to significantly reduce its maintenance costs.

Earlier, in July this year Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation Department had issued an order asking Hong Kong Airlines to stop adding new aircrafts to its fleet or diversifying into other plane types so long as it fulfills all mandatory safety requirements. The order is yet to be lifted by the Civil Aviation Department. However, the airline has indicated that it holding talks with the department and discussing the entire issue.
