Iberia Airlines flights continue to be impacted due to pilots stir

Iberia Airlines flights to both domestic and international destinations continue to be severely impacted due to the ongoing stir by the airline’s pilots.

Iberia Airlines said in a statement that it had to cancel 120 flights on April 20, 2012 on the fourth day of strike.

According to the airline, 37 percent of the 328 scheduled flights had to be canceled on the fourth day of strike by the pilots union Sepla, which is strongly protesting the creation of low-cost airline Iberia Express.

The airline stated that of the 120 canceled flights, 57 were for domestic destinations, 53 to medium haul (mainly European flights) and ten flights overseas.

On the fifth day of strike, on April 23, 2012, the airline had to cancel 125 flights, 37 percent of the 334 scheduled flights, of which 8 were long-haul, 57 were medium-haul and 60 flights were for domestic destinations.

Iberia Airlines pilots have called 30 days of strike, every Monday and Friday, from April 9 to July 20, 2012. The pilots have resorted to strikes after the mediation failed with the government.
