Iberia Airlines reducing frequency between Madrid and Havana

Spain’s national flag carrier Iberia Airlines recently announced it will be reducing its frequency between Madrid and Havana in October this year.
 
Currently, there are six Iberia Airlines flights being currently operated to the Cuban capital Havana from the Spanish capital Madrid.

The airline in a statement said that in view of the sagging demand in Spain Iberia Airlines is being forced to take the step of reducing its six weekly flights to Havana from Madrid to five now.

The airline will curtail its sixth flight in the upcoming winter schedule starting from October 28, 2012. The airline, however, indicated that it is ready to again restart the sixth flight to Havana if the demand again grows.

Another Spanish carrier Air Europa has also announced that it will be reducing its frequency during this winter schedule. The airline, which also operates flights between Madrid and Havana, has said that it will cut its winter schedule from the current seven weekly flights to five.

After Canada and Britain, Cuba is considered to the third largest tourism market for Spanish travelers. Spain is currently facing financial problems and is under an economic recession.
