Iberia Airlines suspending Santo Domingo-Havana flights April 1

Iberia Airline recently announced it will be suspending its flight operations to Cuba. The airline in a statement said that Iberia Airline flights services between Santo Domingo and Havana would be suspended effective from April 1, 2013.

The airline has decided to suspend its Santo Domingo-Havana flight operations as part of its restructuring plans.

Iberia Airline stated that that it wants to make its operations profitable and aiming at a turnaround in its fortunes.
 
As part of its restructuring exercise, the airline would be eliminating most of its unprofitable routes. At the current rate about 15 percent of its unprofitable routes would cease to exist.

The airline disclosed that it is planning to suspend its flights operations to Istanbul, Cairo and Athens in mid-January 2013.
 
Iberia Airline has also decided to cut jobs and would be slashing at least 4,500 jobs. The airline further indicated that it would be reducing the pay of its employees by between 25 and 35 percent. The airline would also reduce its fleet and would be flying 25 less aircrafts.
