Iberia Launches Low Cost Carrier

Apart from booking Iberia flights, Spanish passengers will find it easy and get more travel options to fly to domestic destinations now.

Spain’s leading carrier Iberia recently announced the launch of a new low-cost airline Iberia Express. The move of the airline is aimed at claiming a stake in the highly competitive no-frills sector of the European market. After the merger of British Airways and Iberia, the parent company International Consolidated Airlines Group launched the new low-cost airline to increase profitability.

Iberia in a statement said that initially Iberia Express will be covering Santiago, Granada and Vigo on Spain’s mainland. It will be also covering the island destinations of Minorca, Ibiza, La Palma, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. In future the airline will also operate international flights to Ireland, Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Latvia.

Luis Gallego, Chief Executive of Iberia Express, said that the new airline will be managed independently, but will be employing Iberia’s maintenance and other services. He also said that the containment of costs will also allow Iberia Express to grow and compete with the low-cost operators.
