Iberia to allow gate-to-gate usage of portable devices

Iberia has pleasant news for its travelers. The Spanish airline has an incredible piece of news especially for the gadget freaks who find it difficult to part ways with their devices during their flight. The airline has announced its decision to allow the usage of all personal electronic gadgets during all stages of the flight journey.

As per the airline, travelers will now be able to use their loved portable devices like gaming consoles, tablets, e-book readers, and mobile phones throughout the duration of their journey. However, they need to switch their devices to the ‘flight mode’ to prevent any disturbances caused by the waves. This news comes in the wake of various policy changes being implemented by airlines around the world to stay ahead in the competition and the rat race.

Going forth, the travelers need not switch off their devices while the plane is taxing along the run for takeoff, preparing to land, or is in the tarmac. The only mandatory requirement is that these devices should not transmit any form of data while in use. The airline however, claimed that larger versions of these devices like notebooks and laptops do not fall under the purview of the EU guidelines and hence cannot be used in the same capacity.

On the other hand, the flagship carrier of Spain confirmed that it has cleared all necessary permissions to provide Wi-Fi broadband and GSM links on its flights. It will offer the internet services on 13 of its Airbus A330 series planes. It intends to roll out these services to its entire fleet by the end of the year 2015.
